Two Thousand Twelve

The week that preceded the holiday weekend and the holiday weekend itself were quite eventful for Zach and I.

First off, condolences to Jeanene on the passing of her brother, Jerry (Zach’s uncle). We attended his viewing Thursday and it was an awesome tribute. I guess that makes it two funerals in the month of December. Prayers for the entire Madsen family!

Thursday night, Zach I went out to eat with my girl friends (and their significant others) to Indian food at the Bombay House. I love Indian food, and Zach was a real trooper to come along – he is not a fan of ethnic food in general. It was so good to visit and laugh with them! Friday after work, we met up with the entire Henderson clan (adults only) to go out to dinner and a movie. We saw Mission Impossible, and for never seeing a previous Mission Impossible movie, I have to say I rather enjoyed it! Almost as much as I enjoyed the jumbo chipmunk figures in the theater hallway. Theodore is my fave!

Saturday (NYE) morning, we did our annual tradition: Breakfast! This time I convinced Zach to drive up to Ruth’s Diner. The weather was gorgeous and we drove up the Canyon and enjoyed the scenery while the sun was out.

Out of all the divine things to eat there: biscuits & gravy, banana bread French toast, delicious homestyle pancakes…Zach got eggs?! Embarrassing…

The rest of the afternoon was spent gearing up for our ski trip – finding me new snowboarding pants (I’ve had the same pair since middle school), purchasing some good solid layers, and so on. You’ve never seen my husband as happy as when he is shopping for snowboarding gear! We even got all our gift returns taken care of at the mall.

That night we decided to start off our festivities with some Sushi. Then we attended a friend’s party in Sugarhouse briefly, before returning home to spend the later hours together. We realized last minute we did not have any Martinelli’s, and rushed off to the grocery store before midnight. All that was left was some no-name ORGANIC brand, but it was sufficient. We stayed up late watching the ball drop and discussing our goals and resolutions.

The next morning, after church, we set off to Park City for a mini get-a-way.

We walked around Main St, went out to dinner, even tested out the hot tub on our balcony for a while.

I love the beds at the Newpark hotel. I would have honestly been happy staying in that bed my whole day off on Monday, and when Zach had to wake me up for snowboarding, he found only my hair…

We spent the last part of our day shopping at the outlets and meeting up with my parents and Blake for some soup. Zach’s cherry on top of our free day? The Jazz game. Even though we played the Hornets, we were victorious and had killer seats! We even had some surprise near-by visitors! My boss and his wife have season tickets just one row above and a couple seats over from us, so we’ll be seeing them quite a few times this season.

Even though it is only January 3rd, we feel as though 2012 will be better than it’s predecessor.
