Birthdays and Babes

This week we celebrated our friend’s birthday at Lone Star Taqueria.  It was our first time.  I had heard amazing things about their fish tacos and they did not disappoint.  It was so fun to see Zach’s Sigma Chi friends and celebrate Dave’s birthday!

I’ve been working on a lot of fun projects lately.  Helping out my family and friends with their printed media is something I really enjoy, I wish I had more time for it.  I helped my friend Kristina with her new high-gloss black business cards.

Thursday we had our friends the Lynch’s over to our house for s’mores!  It was our first time using our fire table and we are happy to announce that there weren’t any glitches.  We love Whitney, Tyler, Maddox, and their newest addition:  baby Breaker!

IMG_3810

Just two of the sweetest boys you ever will meet…

IMG_3811

Saturday was full of errands but did include brunch at Eggs in the City.  The Mama Burrito is my favorite [ask for egg whites instead, it will rock your world.]

We also went to a matinee movie – Jobs.  Incredibly inspiring and sad all at the same time.  Just goes to show that ‘people that are crazy enough to think they can change the world…actually do’.

Screen Shot 2013-08-19 at 11.24.03 AM

We also had our first Serge Party.  Let’s not talk about how it took me three attempts to thread my serger for the first time, but rather how I refashioned my overalls with said serger.  Can’t wait to sport these once the weather starts cooling down.

IMG_3827

I also received a piece I did for my friend Whitney in the mail – her baby announcement for her little man Jase!  We are so excited for the Allens: their newest addition couldn’t be more adorable.

IMG_3833

Sunday we were lucky enough to see the Lynch family again for baby Breaker’s blessing.  He was an angel.  He even has customized kicks…

IMG_3834

Whitney sure knows how to throw a party – thanks for inviting us!

We ended our Sunday with root beer floats at the Fotheringhams and watched our two favorite TV shows.  Summer [in my opinion] lasts until Labor Day for these Hendersons, so we plan on getting in a few more activities in on our summer list before we have to pull out the boots and sweaters.

Our Week

This week we:

Ventured to IKEA to get one thing.  That one thing was sold out, so we decided to play Hide and Seek instead…

IMG_3161

Almost bought a puppy.

IMG_3190

A woman brought four male St. Bernard / Lab pups to the Olympic Oval and we almost took one home.  Zach left to go warm up for his ice hockey game and I was left alone with this handsome devil.

IMG_3191

I completed [almost] all of my freelance projects:  9 wedding invitations, 2 logos, 2 birthday party invites, 2 baby shower invites, and some custom water bottle wrappers?  It’s been pretty crazy the last few weeks…

IMG_3192

Zach and I went on a date Friday night where we celebrated 30 days of being sober.  From Diet Coke, of course.

IMG_3215

We also gawked at Zach’s favorite office space:  Super Top Secret.  It houses an indoor half pipe and Zach’s been dreaming about touring it ever since it was featured on City Home Collective.

sts

We later saw a movie at the Broadway Theater which totally creeped us out.  Don’t go see The East.  Just don’t.  Please.  Unless you like seeing people bathe each other in a river…then go ahead, I guess.

Saturday was action packed.  I completed my first bike-run brick workout in the wee hours of the morning [it’s where you bike and then immediately go on a run] which totally kicked my trash.  I felt pretty confident about my tri training until this workout came along.  But enough about that.  We then worked in our yard, assembled our outdoor dining furniture, and did a bunch of other uninteresting chores around the house.  We worked hard, so we decided to treat ourselves to some grilled cheese sandwiches and cookie ice cream sandwiches at Melty Way.

IMG_3292

IMG_3291

Good cheese, great dessert, gorgeous branding.  We both enjoyed it!

IMG_3293

I then drug Zach to every store I could think of.  This included Fashion Place and Scheels.  He needed a serious meal after all that, so we agreed on Cafe Trio.

IMG_3290

The finale of our week was having my brother and his girlfriend over to our house on Sunday night for a turkey dinner and hot fudge brownie sundaes.

Another week of summer made successful…

Conference Weekend // Easter Revisited

Our week leading up to conference weekend at the cabin was typical of Zach and I:  random and full of food.

Monday was drizzly and cold.  We went out for warm, greasy Chinese food and drove around looking at modern homes.  It’s this weird thing we do.

IMG_0833

[My fortune tells me to ‘remember three months from this date – Good things are in store for you.’]

IMG_0832

We ended the night with chocolate shakes at In N’ Out.

IMG_0869

New this week [for a little work update] one of my mall kiosks I designed was installed – always a relief to have a project built, delivered, and installed.  Now, on to the next one…

DSCN0810

What’s new with Zach?  Well…he bought new roller blades for roller hockey.  Here he is googling how to “bake” his skates in the oven so they will mold to his feet better.  He was not happy when I told him he was not allowed to “bake” his skates in our oven.  You wouldn’t let him either if you would have seen what he did to a Tostino’s frozen pizza last week…

IMG_0871

Friday after work Zach begged me to go to Market Street.  I told him we could go under one condition:  we went to IKEA first.  Zach despises IKEA.  He thinks the store is a joke and their products are horrible.  But I needed frames for a gallery wall in our hallway, and I don’t have any issues with IKEA…so we went.  Zach carried a pile of frames through the maze of the store and was a great sport.

IMG_0889

Then we had dinner at Market Street.  At which my husband told me that I looked, and I quote, like a ‘high class ho’ with my hair braided around the side and back of my head.  He said I looked like Beyonce, to which normally I would be completely flattered because I am obsessed with her…but he was referring to my ‘ghetto hair’ and spiked necklace.

IMG_0898

We planned to see a movie – “Parental Guidance” but I had heard from a friend it was awful, also Zach thought that Rick Moranis was in the film…and when I informed him it was Billy Crystal instead, we both decided we would go home and watch a movie.  Zach talked about Honey, I Shrunk the Kids all the way home.

Zach bought me a calendar I had wanted from Rifle Paper Co. for Christmas – but I didn’t want to actually use it as a calendar, I wanted to frame the gorgeous maps of my favorite cities for our hallways upstairs.  Hence the frames.  I thought I was being super creative until I read this post on this blog – she had the same idea.  She even used the same frames – no idea is sacred anymore thanks to blogs and Pinterest, I guess.

IMG_0984

Saturday morning Zach and I packed for our over-nighter up at the Hendo cabin and then watched the first Saturday session of General Conference.  Since I have severe ADD, I watched while working on some sewing projects.  My sweet neighbor let me borrow her serger to fix a costume of ours and then I used it to skinny up some pairs of Zach’s old church pants.  We couldn’t believe the difference:  over 4″ off each leg was removed.  [Left is the fixed leg – right was the existing leg.]

IMG_0909

I also finished my second maxi skirt with the help of my trusty Singer.  The material had been sitting in our office for almost a year – that’s why it was SO wrinkled.  Also, once ironed the asymmetrical part was much better, I promise.  I also altered a chambray top for summer, altered a peplum top, and so on.  I completed six projects while watching/listening to the first session.

IMG_0978

After that first session was over we set off for the cabin.  We only made one stop on the way up there…at which Zach purchased a corn dog, a chicken strip, and two potato wedges.  How is he not 300 pounds!?  I want his metabolism.

IMG_0916

We arrived just in time for the second session and watched it with Zach’s family.  Afterwards we ate dinner and then all the men went off to the Priesthood session.

IMG_0920

The ladies and the kiddies watched movies, played games [almost 25 games of Tic-Tac-Toe on aunt Katie’s phone with Kate], and snuggled with baby Clark.

We had a late night and were up bright and early the next morning [technically the kids were up bright and early, Zach and I slept as long as long as possible] for breakfast.  Then it was time for one of my favorite traditions with the Hendersons:  the Easter Bunny visit and the egg hunt.  Zach’s mom had the bunny costume stored near the garage – so we got Zach all dressed up and he rode an ATV out in the trees.  Meanwhile, Mark [Zach’s dad] was handing out carrots to all the kidlets.  Mark told them if they waved their carrot in the wind the Easter Bunny might smell them and come visit us!  Sure enough…the Easter Bunny came zipping out of the tress on the 4-wheeler.  He even did a couple of tricks.

Then it was time to hop down to the basement for the egg hunt.

The kiddies searched for their eggs and when the hunt was over it was time for the bunny to go back into the woods.

IMG_0960

After the Easter festivities and between the Sunday sessions we returned home.  Thank you Mark and Jeanene for such a fun and fantastic weekend!

We decided to make dinner at home and try out the new fancy rice maker my parents got me for my birthday – recommended by my darling Chinese co-worker.  It cooked our rice to PERFECTION!  [Zach is a rice snob and doesn’t like minute rice, he prefers a long grain white rice.]  We made Zach’s favorite – stir fry, and my favorite – brownie sundaes.

Conference was so wonderful.  I wish I could be this uplifted each weekend – it gave us such a fresh start for this week.  Even better to mix in holiday festivities and family.  Zach and I are very blessed.  Our religion, our families, and the moments we have with each other are the most important things in our lives.

PICTURE OVERLOAD // PLUS THE PINES

Our week / weekend was pretty exciting :

The snow is still ever-present in our hood.  It’s pretty drafty at work so I have resorted to wearing scarves, beanies, and gloves to the office – and lots of layers.  The gloves are a pending problem – it makes typing a little clumsy.  Shout out to my friend Angie who made me this killer scarf…

Since we were away last weekend, for Family Night we decided to do dinner and a movie.  Sushi at Mikado – a movie at our local Bountiful joint.  The movie was fantastic, but I do love myself a good gangster flick.

This week has been highlighted on my calendar for months – SHOT Show in Las Vegas.  I had two booths going to the show [I am sure you are sick of it by now, I apologize – but it’s kind of my life currently] and I have been anxious and excited to see how everything went.  The pictures aren’t great, and are crowded with rednecks…but you get the idea.  The Browning Booth…

The Winchester Booth…

Unfortunately I don’t have the best photos of this booth, but I do have a video via GoPro.  The illuminated gun kiosks are my favorite.

Winchester Booth Walk-Through

It feels good to have it over with.  I have been working on these projects for months now.  Now?  On to the next [20] projects.

We are gearing up for V-Day and I am making new prints for our house:  but more on that later…

Friday we left for a mini road trip to Idaho to meet up with Zach’s family for the weekend.  We had a marathon of Breaking Bad on the way up there [pretty sure it isn’t that safe to watch movies on a laptop while driving, but it made the journey go by so fast].

We stayed at a place called the Pines – close to West Yellowstone and Island Park.  We shared a cabin with Zach’s sister Lori and her family.  That meant that the next morning Lola, Olive, and Will all got to wake up Uncle Zach.  I wouldn’t mind waking up to these sweet faces every morning.

After breakfast we all geared up to go on a snowmobile ride.

The whole family took a ride to Big Springs.  For the record, snowmobiling with the Hendersons is a little different than with my tiny family of four.  Also…snowmobiles have really evolved since I was young.  I remember sitting on the back of a sled and feeling like my backside was going to break.  These new age snowmobiles are like recliners on sleds.  With hand warmers and everything!

Some of us didn’t make it to Big Springs awake…

We spent the rest of the day eating, napping, eating some more, hot tubbin’, and playing games.

Sunday was spent making crafts with the kiddies…

Zach fed the kiddies…

…and we watched the BIGGEST football game of Zach’s existence.  The San Francisco playoff game.

He brought all the essentials:  soda, popcorn, and his throwback jersey.  He was glued to the tiny TV for the duration of the event.

After all was said and done, the Niners won and are on their way to the SUPERBOWL!  It was such a great game – and Zach has been ‘waiting for this for YEARS.’  I was really grateful they won as well;  that meant I didn’t have to make the drive home with a fussy husband.

When the victory dancing was over we packed our bags and made our way back home – with the most gorgeous Idaho sunset to finish off our weekend.

Thank you Mark and Jeanene for such a great time!  It was my first time to Island Park and I hope it won’t be the last.  We love our family!

‘Twas the Week Before Christmas

December has flown by, and we celebrated the week before Christmas in traditional Henderson/Fotheringham fashion…

But first, days 4-7 of the 12 Days of Christmas came to pass.  Zach loved Day 5 [Five Golden Rings] – 5 Krispy Kremes.

He also got a big kick out of Day 7 [Seven Swans a Swimming] – I folded 7 “gift certificates” into paper swans.  Yeah, origami is not my favorite and folding seven of those bad boys was a true test of my patience, but he L O V E D Day 7.  So it was worth the paper cut, I guess.

Wednesday night I drove up to Park City after work to do some recording for a Christmas gift.  My co-worker [who conveniently plays the guitar, bass guitar, and has a neighbor with a recording studio] offered to help me.  I’ve recorded in a studio before and studio time is beyond expensive.  This man [who I had never met before] did all the recording, the mixing, and the mastering for me.

I sang three Christmas songs and we had enough time left over to record one more.  Josh [my office buddy] asked me what my favorite song was, and I informed him it was “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” by the Beatles.  He happened to know it on the guitar and we recorded an acoustic version for my Dad for a surprise Christmas gift.  Josh is extremely talented.  I couldn’t believe he busted that song out of nowhere and it played it nearly perfect.  It wasn’t professional by any means, and there were many missed notes on my part, but it reminded me [during those brief two hours] how much I miss singing.  Not for crowds of people, but just for myself.  The Beatles track ended up being Zach and I’s favorite.

Bonus Track – I Wanna Hold Your Hand

Thursday my first two-story structure I designed showed up at our shop from Chinaland.  The guys started set-up and have a lot of work to do before the structure goes to SHOT Show in Las Vegas in January.  So far, it’s coming a long nicely.  Now I just have to pray that it doesn’t fall apart and nobody gets injured.

Friday we had a company lunched catered by Red Iguana.  It was SO delicious and I even brought my Cocoa Latte so the guys and I could have a hot chocolate bar.  Turns out even grown men love a good hot chocolate bar – even though they said it was emasculating and it felt like “Relief Society”.

Our weekend continued.  We finished our last minute shopping, wrapping, and delivered all our neighbor Christmas gifts.

Sunday we had our annual Henderson Christmas party at Classic Skating.  It was fun to see all of Zach’s aunts, uncles, and cousins – and of course our nieces and nephews.

We ended the night at Zach’s sister’s house.  We hung out with their girls until it was time to read stories and brush their teeth.  It gave me a very small insight into what having kids at Christmas time will be like.  We read “When Mrs. Claus Went On Vacation” and got them all tucked into bed.  I love these little ladies.

Meanwhile, the 12 Days continued with days 8-12.

We’ve finally made it to Christmas Eve.  We have plans that involve even more family and much more food.  Wishing all of our friends and loved ones a Merry Christmas!  Stay safe and warm, we love you!

The Cabining Continues [#40][#34][#4][#10][#45]

As usual, our week in review:

Monday I got to go out to dinner with my sister-in-law, Siri. She is home for a visit for the summer. Her and [Zach’s brother] Sean live in Philidelphia while Sean finishes his medical residency there. I don’t see her that often, so it was great to spend time with her and laugh. Thanks Siri!

Remember when I said I had a million lists? Like things I need to finish around my house? Well this has been on the list for almost two years. I have been collecting prints and photographs to hang in our front room since we moved in. I finally got them all in frames and laid out the way I wanted them. I passed off a much overdue item, #40 – Complete one of my many projects around the house.

Truthfully I hope I can pass off another project, but my goal was one…so I feel ok about it. Don’t set your goals TOO high, right?

We had a dance party at my neighbor’s house on Tuesday. Club Warner was the place to be. We played her Kinect dance game and laughed pretty hard at each other. Luckily, Sydney brought her lucky spandex top for me to wear. It made me feel fearless, to be honest. I did let her wear it when it was her turn to battle.

It turns out some of the girls were actually dancers in high school – so it wasn’t a fair match.

Zach and I scheduled a weekend up at his parents’ cabin, just the two of us.  We had been looking forward to it all week.  No cell service, cooler temperatures, and time alone together.  It made the fourth spot on our summer list, #4 – Henderson Cabin trip.  So on our way up, we decided to take a different route up to the cabin and drive through Ogden Canyon and eat dinner at the Oaks.  This was #34 – Drive up Ogden Canyon and eat outside at the Oaks.

It was so beautiful and the weather was perfect.  The food is nothing to write home about [Zach and other Ogden residents might beg to differ], but it’s all about the experience!  Zach even got some Farr ice cream…him eating ice cream is a pretty rare occurrence, so I had to document it.  And he got TWO scoops.  I couldn’t believe it.  Wild man!

After dinner [and Zach’s ice cream to go] we made the rest of the trek up to Causey.

I was craving something else, however.  S’mores are my favorite summer treats.  Fires are not allowed up in the area because of the season – so we improvised and used gas.  They were just as amazing.  So there went another item off the list, #10 – Make s’mores.

Zach couldn’t even finish one.  Such a lightweight.

We ended the night with a movie – Crazy Stupid Love, one of our favorites.

The next morning we lounged, made breakfast, and while Zach watched some strange golf show – I made a craft.  A DIY Anthropologie necklace.

We had planned to spend most of our time outside, but with the rain storm we were grateful to have things to entertain us inside.

When the rain subsided for a bit, we ventured outside.  Call me crazy, but I’ve always wanted to shoot a bow.  Besides, Katniss made it seem super hard core, and that only enticed me more.  So, Zach set up a temporary target and he taught me how to shoot a bow and arrow…without injuring myself too much.  We completed #45 – Take an archery lesson.

Zach didn’t trust me with the adult-size bow, so he made me use the kiddie one.   It was probably for the best, to be honest.  The kiddie one was hard enough to manage!

Zach’s a really good shot…even in skinny jeans.

Then we made dinner.  Zach’s favorite dinner of all time:  tri-tip, grilled corn, and sweet potato fries.

Yes, I mangled that red meat with my bare hands.  And yes, the sweet potato fries were dusted with parmesan cheese.  It might just be my favorite meal, too.  I definitely prefer grilled corn to boiled corn, that’s for sure!

We drove home Saturday night to be home for our meetings Sunday morning.

After church we went to my Aunt and Uncle’s house for dinner.  It was delicious, and my mom made my favorite treat: orange rolls.  We even had special visitors, my mom’s cousins from Jersey.  They drove here.  From New Jersey.  It was great to spend time with them and visit.

This week was packed full – and next week is looking to be a good one too!  I am looking most forward to getting into some sort of body of water – I have been forbidden because of my incision on my back:  no swimming, no submerging my incision at ALL.  Do you know how hard it is to stay out of the water in the middle of the summer?  Especially when your family is begging you to get on a boat?!  So to celebrate, we are going to do SOME activity with water.  Anything…that involves a swimming suit!  Anything.

Hope you all had a great week/weekend!
