Twenty-Six

For weeks I have been trying to think of what to get my husband for his birthday.  I had nothing.  I kept asking him, and he wouldn’t give me even an inkling of what he wanted.  Technically, the Utah vs. USC game in California was his birthday gift, but everyone has to open SOMETHING on their actual birthday, right?

We left after work and flew into LAX late and Mark and Jeanene were nice enough to pick us up!  They wanted to join in on Zach’s birthday festivities as well.

The next morning, we went to the Crepe Shop to eat a quick breakfast before doing a little shopping.  Ok, Jeanene and I shopped…Zach and Mark walked through the Promenade and listened to the live bands.  After a few stops, we drove off to the Coliseum for the game.  This place was MASSIVE!  Zach said the Raiders used to play in this joint before they moved to Oakland.  90,000 + people can be jam packed in that place!

Zach found the four of us awesome seats online on the 8th row!  Towards the end of the game, we were sorta kinda wishing we had been sitting with all the other Utah fans.  If you watched the game, the last few minutes were extremely intense and sitting with hardcore USC season ticket holders was…scary.

Even though we lost, I think we did a really decent job for our “first real Pac 12 game”.  Montana didn’t count.

Our last day we went down to Venice beach and ate at a nearby diner.  We walked around the beach, ventured over to the skate park, and checked out the greasy body builders…wearing speedos.  We were not impressed.  Venice is pretty sketchy, but always entertaining.  My favorite quote of that adventure?  Jeanene saying to Zach and I, “Did you see that store?  It is selling equipment to do drugs!”  Haha, we were dying.  Yes, the visual plethora of bongs and other drug paraphernalia is always a laugh.

To get a change of scenery we ventured off to the Farmer’s Market and the Grove before heading off to the airport.  We got roast beef sandwiches, Greek Food, and Pinkberry.  It was pretty amazing, as always.  Zach even got his birthday gift from the Apple Store, his Beats by Dr. Dre headphones.

It was a quick trip, but we had a blast being together and visiting LA.

Yesterday was Zach’s actual birthday.  I’ll give you a gold star if you can guess what we did?

After work, Zach came to pick me up for visual masterpiece of a dinner:  Benihana’s.  He loves that freaking place.  Every birthday of Zach’s for the rest of our lives will be spent at this establishment.

After or delicious (and smelly) dinner, we drove home to change into our PJ’s before hitting up the last crusade of Zach’s celebration:  a movie!  SHOCKER, I know…

Once in our slippers and sweats (a tradition in our little family for week-day movies) and with our complimentary Benihana Birthday Photo…we were off to see Warrior.

This movie was FANTASTIC.  The Fighter, with Marky Mark?  Similar story…but better.  We both really loved it.  We didn’t get home until 1:30 am, but it is worth the tired eyes this morning!

Happy Birthday to my best friend.

26 years never looked so good!
