Family Fun

Speaking of family…Monday for Family Night we went to a local nursery to look for plants to put in our planters.  Unfortunately, all the plants we were looking for were either sold out or “out of season”.  I guess our planters will be lonely until spring.  On the plus side:  there were bunnies.  Zach had a bunny named Oscar once, but it hopped away.  Literally.  So Zach has a soft spot in his heart for all the Oscars out there in the world…

Wednesday was the Zagg Golf Tournament up in Midway.  E2 sponsors the 8th hole, so my boss let his daughter Hayley, Darrah, and I man the event.  There was a contest to win awesome Jazz tickets, tons of food, and we even scored some great free gear!

IMG_3490

We ended the day with a really late lunch at Tarahumara – fantastic Mexican food with an amazing salsa bar.

Friday night was Zach’s play-off ice hockey game at the Oval.  They were victorious and Zach is officially the highest scoring player in his entire adult league.

IMG_3509

High-fives through the glass were well deserved:  I am his number one fan!

IMG_3511

Saturday was a long day.  On my agenda for Saturday morning was to attempt my very first triple activity day.  I woke up way too early for a Saturday – swam at the South Davis Rec Center, rode my bike [actually Zach’s bike] up and down the Legacy Trail, and ran around my neighborhood.  I survived.  I now feel a little more confident about this whole thing coming up in September.  My only two goals are to: not drown and to finish.  The first is by far the most important of the two.

Around lunch time Zach and I made our way over to City Creek to check out the release of the new [kind of] Jordan’s.  Just call us Kim and Kanye:  we left with a pair for each of us.

IMG_3515

After more Mexican food at the food court we drove home to meet my family at our neighborhood splash pad.  My cousins were in from San Diego and we decided to get together with the kids and have some fun.  We spent a good two + hours at the Foxboro North splash pad and then had a finale of Hot N’ Ready Pizza and some serious playground action.

IMG_3520

Sunday my cousin Brady [Corporal Brady Fotheringham, to be exact] blessed his baby boy Cody at my Grandma’s ward in Magna.  Soooo many Fotheringhams came out to celebrate.  My Grandma shared the sweetest testimony during the meeting as well.  I wish I could have recorded it or written it down somehow.  We spent the rest of the afternoon eating lunch, Texas sheet cake, and going though old family photos.  We discovered that even though my brother doesn’t want to admit it, he is an identical clone of my father.  Photos from my Dad’s mission in England prove it.

IMG_3544

Also, my mother weighed 98 pounds on her wedding day.  Is she even serious?  I haven’t weighed 98 pounds since middle school…so…there ya go.

IMG_3549

It was great to see family that lives so far away and to spend so much time with the ones we are so lucky to have close!

Spouseless

This week:

The Proactiv project that I have been working on for months now finally got installed.  The newly designed kiosk was completed and all finished up so if you are ever in West Edmonton, Canada…go check it out?

IMG_3333

I created some “Great Gatsby” themed birthday invitations for the cutest one-year-old I’ve ever seen.  Her sweet mom sent me this picture of how they turned out.  I can’t wait to see more pictures from the party!

IMG_3349

All of our outdoor furniture has arrived for our back yard.  Literally it all came within two days.  Since the back yard is not yet completed, it lives in our garage until we can set it up.  I am itching to get our little fire pit set up to roast some mallows.  It’s only a matter of time now…

IMG_3371

Saturday morning Zach left for Lake Powell with his family.  I couldn’t get the week off from work, so he went solo with his parents.  Since we weren’t to see each other for almost nine days, we went out for a date on Friday.  We dined at the Copper Onion – yes, that is a fried egg on top of Zach’s pork chop…

IMG_3350

…and saw the Way Way Back at the Broadway Theater for its opening night.  You’ve never seen a happier Zach than when he receives a free T-Shirt.  It was his favorite moment of the night.  Also, the movie was excellent.

IMG_3369

Speaking of T-shirts…

Zach and I have a serious problem when it comes to tees.  We are tee hoarders.  We have two dressers in our shared walk-in closet and 90 percent of that storage goes to tees.  Pajama tees, casual tees, v-necks…you get the idea.  Since Zach left Saturday morning I made myself a goal to clean out and organize our closet while he was gone.  So that’s exactly what I did.  I got rid of 62 T-shirts.  I am not lying…I counted.  I kept sentimental ones:  our NY Yankee tees from our first Yankees game together, our Cubs tees from our first visit to Wrigley Field, and so on.  I also organized all our bins, the two dressers in our master bedroom, and de-cluttered my jewelry boxes.

IMG_3367

IMG_3368

The rest of Saturday was spent at the Nordstrom Sale, a tradition since I was six, with some friends.  We dined at Brio and then ventured through Nordstrom and a few other stores at Fashion Place.

IMG_3373

I’m so grateful to have friends that share my love for sales:  Jenn and Lindsey, you are the best!

Sunday I attended church at my old home ward with my parents and then got to celebrate my Grandpa’s 82nd birthday over dinner and a lemon bundt cake.  No, he’s not sleeping…he’s making a wish!  I adore him.

IMG_3366

Even though I have almost seven more days of being spouseless, I have big plans for this week / weekend.  This sorta single girl is on the move…

Memorial Day Weekend 2013

Before our long weekend, there were some fun things that happened along the way…

Monday my mom, aunt, cousin, and my mom’s friend Lori went out for dinner to celebrate Lori’s 50th birthday!  We went to Iggy’s – which really proves how much I love Lori…because my nickname for that joint is “Icky’s”.  We had such a good time, regardless.

IMG_1846

Wednesday my friends and I all met in Salt Lake for dinner.  We made an excuse to all get together before Whitney has her second baby in a few weeks.  The five of us dined at Frida Bistro [my first time].  It has been on my list of restaurants to try for a while – Kristina and I ordered something with cactus in it, it’s contemporary Mexican food, and the dish was surprisingly good!  We stayed over an hour past closing time.  I often go weeks, sometimes even months, without seeing my oldest friends and we always pick up right where we left off.  I adore all of them.

IMG_1860

Thursday was a unique work day.  My boss sent me to Santa Monica for a meeting with Westfield Corporate.  I must say – traveling with my boss is a “first class” experience.  He is preferred in just about everything.  Upgraded rental car:  check.  Sky Priority through security:  check.  Priority boarding:  check. I flew out separately earlier in the morning and as soon as Brandon arrived we drove out to their headquarters.

IMG_1898

It was a 40+ story building with crazy security.  We had to get visitor security passes and all that jazz.  Our meeting didn’t even last an hour, and we briefly toured their facilities [which were incredible – I want a full kitchen and lounge in our office building, ok??].  They even had fancy pod bathrooms so you didn’t have to use the restroom with someone in the next stall.  And then we were off…

IMG_1899

IMG_1897

I decided I wanted to spend my last four hours at Santa Monica Pier.  The smell of the ocean, the sand in my toes, and some fresh seafood before heading back to LAX.

 IMG_1894

IMG_1896

IMG_1895

Side Note:  I am a freak when it comes to the airport.  Zach and I have a system.  Call it what you will, but we have a system.  We show up at the airport with a certain amount of time, especially if we have to return a rental car.  My boss?  We dropped off our rental car 50 minutes before the flight was to take off.  If you’ve ever been to LAX you know that this is pretty much the most ludicrous thing you could possibly do.  Luckily, once again, that sly dog gets priority everything and we made it through security in 12 minutes.  12 freaking minutes.  I haven’t been through LAX security in under 1 hour…ever.  The real question is:  how do I get priority everything now?  Traveling with him was a dream.  As we were boarding [he flew first class, obviously] I noticed the guy in line next to us looked familiar.  Sure enough, it was Danny Masterson [he played Hyde on That 70’s Show] and he sat a row behind the boss man.  Apparently he owns a club in Park City and being the celebrity trollop that I am I informed my boss all about it.  It was a short trip – about 11 hours – but so nice to be out of the office for a change.  I don’t mind traveling for work one bit.

Also at work:  we hired another designer at E2.  Her name is Darrah and it was her birthday on Friday, so naturally we treated her to lunch.  We ordered two of the best desserts that the Dodo has to offer.  Please order their blueberry cream cheese pie

IMG_2113

Friday after work we left for Jackson, Wyoming to celebrate our holiday weekend.  We made the drive up through Idaho and then finally made our way into Wyoming.  We decided not to stay in the actual town of Jackson, but just outside of it in Teton Village.  We kicked off our summer t0-do list with some 4-wheeling.

IMG_1914

The next morning we woke up and drove into town to get a bite to eat at a local sub shop.

IMG_2023

After lunch we drove outside of town so we could go horseback riding.  We went on a guided ride at Horse Creek Ranch – one of my favorite activities of the whole weekend.  Zach picked Hawk to ride, and I got Levi and we were lead by our trusty guide, John.

IMG_2022

IMG_2020

IMG_1936

We rode on a trail with a gorgeous view of the Tetons in the distance and gave Levi and Hawk a chance to snack.  We saw a little bit of wildlife – including a bald eagle’s nest.  It’s a good thing we didn’t go on a half-day ride, because my horse had a seriously tiny bladder.

IMG_2021

After our ride we made our way back to Jackson for our dinner reservation at the Snake River Grill.

IMG_2018

After dinner I made Zach stop and get some ice cream before we made our way over to the Teton County Fairgrounds.

IMG_2017

We had a date with the Jackson Rodeo.  I had been to several rodeos in the past, but none were quite like this one.  But first, Zach had to get his liquid cheese fix.  Zach’s family did concessions at the Ogden rodeo for years, and he loves to critique concession technique.  You will be pleased to know that the Jackson Rodeo had “excellent nachos”.

IMG_2016

IMG_2014

IMG_2011

IMG_2013

Our favorite events were the bull riding, bareback riding, and of course…the rodeo royalty.  Not an event.  Just incredible.

IMG_2111

The next morning we had breakfast at the amazing Pearl Street Bagels.  Not only did we get warm bagels, but we made a new friend:  the sweetest sheep dog there ever was curled right up next to us in front of the restaurant.

IMG_2109

We spent the rest of our morning shopping around down town Jackson.  Cowboy hats, fringe ensembles, and lots of fur.

IMG_2107

IMG_2108

Afterwards we made our way back over to the Teton County Fairgrounds for the Jackson fair activities.  There was knife and tomahawk throwing…

IMG_2102

IMG_2103

incredible outerwear…

IMG_2106

and great company.  Meet Jedediah.

IMG_2105

After we had tried our hand at all the activities, and Zach had tried on every type of animal skin possible, we picked up some sandwiches to go from Backcountry Outfitters and drove back to Teton Village.  We decided to take the tram up to the top at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.

IMG_2099

IMG_2083

It was a twelve minute ride to the top.  We walked up to the very peak and then made our way down the backside of the mountain – where we found an abandoned pallet.  So we had our picnic on that pallet.

IMG_2082

IMG_2101

We walked around for a while, got some dirty looks for ducking under the restrictive orange ropes, and then made our way back down the mountain.

IMG_2100

We quickly changed and then drove just outside of Teton Village to our dinner reservation at Calico.

IMG_2095

That’s where I decided that my 26 days without Diet Coke deserved one   small   break.  I only had one, too.  It tasted pretty amazing.

IMG_2097

The restaurant was great:  delicious pizza and pasta while we watched the families play on the lawn beyond the patio.  We also enjoyed a giant piece of chocolate cake.

IMG_2098

IMG_2096

We spent the rest of our evening at the hotel’s hot tub and fire pit.

IMG_2094

Our last morning in Jackson Zach had big plans.  He has been asking me to go fishing since the weather started warming up.  So before we left on Friday Zach geared up.  He got all of our supplies, including fishing poles, at Wal-Mart.  Friday morning we checked out of our hotel and drove north to Grand Teton National Park.

IMG_2147

I’ve been wanting to see Jenny Lake for some time and we thought we could possibly find a good fishing spot up that way.  We stopped at a little area called Moose to grab something to eat and then continued on.  When we arrived at Jenny Lake we walked around for a while and then hiked down to the water.

IMG_2149

We found a large rock and sat and watched the water for a while.

IMG_2148

We determined it was not great fishing conditions at Jenny Lake, so we drove a little farther north to Jackson Lake.  Jackson Lake is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been.  The water is so clear and the Tetons in the background really are incredible.  A local fishing guide told us to fish just below the dam, where the fish would be battling getting back into Jackson Lake.  Apparently we weren’t the only ones with the same plan.  We got our gear and hunkered down on the gravel shore.

IMG_2177

IMG_2179

IMG_2182

IMG_2180

We fished for a while with absolutely no luck.  I had a couple of nibbles, but nothing actually stuck.  The gentlemen next to us, however, was getting really lucky.  I literally saw him catch five fish.  I attributed it to our lack of professional gear…not to our lack of skill.  Or patience.  We were very patient.  It was late afternoon and we decided to pack up our stuff and drive home.  So we didn’t catch a big one…but we got a good laugh about it.  It was the perfect way to end our trip.

While driving home we decided we are definitely going back to Jackson.  As a youngster my family made a lot of trips to Yellowstone and we only passed through Jackson, we never actually stayed there.  We even went on a river rafting trip down the Snake and went boating on Jackson Lake, but never stayed in the town of Jackson.  I am sad it took us this long.  Next time, those fish won’t be so lucky…

Lone Wolf Wife

2 Permalink 0

This weekend I was a lone wolf.  Normally I would say I have no problem being alone; I consider myself to be quite an independent person.  But this weekend seemed extra long considering Zach was out of town with his friends and my entire family was in Bear Lake.  But I kept myself busy over the weekend and got a lot accomplished.  First…some things that made my week:

While re-loading tray 1 at work I discovered my boss had purchased Dunder Mifflin Paper [by Quill].  It completely made my day.  It’s the little things that get me through the work.

IMG_0995

To be completely honest, I have been in a rut lately with my health.  I’ve been eating healthy, exercising…and nothing is changing.  I think that’s the worst part about it – I seem to be doing the right drill, but nothing is happening.  Yes, I did have three chocolate chip cookies up at the cabin this weekend…but that’s not my point!  I decided this week I would eat super clean, exercise every single day, and see if anything happened.  Did you know that an average healthy weight for a 5’3″ female is 115 pounds?  Kill me now.  I found this food challenge on a health blog I read often, and have been following it religiously.  This better freaking work.

IMG_1109

Tuesday I found out my husband was going on a golf trip with his friends.  So when my plans fell through for Wednesday night, Zach asked if I wanted to go out.  He took me on a “themed date”, if you will.  Dinner at my favorite Italian restaurant – Caffe Molisse [I always get the spaghettini pomodori – this time vegan, thank you food challenge – and it was still amazing].

IMG_1113

He then took me to a movie at the ghetto theater in Salt Lake – where they were having a temporary showing of the Godfather [the original].  My husband knows me too well.  Gangster / mobster movies are my ultimate favorite and I have never seen the Godfather on the big screen – considering it came out in the 70’s.

IMG_1114

IMG_1116

Thursday night I helped Zach pack for his trip – which included mounds of laundry and went to his back-to-back roller hockey games at Hollywood Connection.  He plays on two different roller hockey teams and both teams won their games!  He scored multiple goals and had several assists.

IMG_1112

Also, there was a mother with her five little children [there watching their father, I assume] and the youngest boy jumped off the metal bleacher seating and cut his leg.  Really  bad.  Blood oozing down his leg.  So the little boy’s older sister [mayyyyybe 9 years old] went into the restroom with him and helped him clean up.  He came out with brown paper towels wrapped around his wound and tied in a knot.  They sat right back down where they were before in the row in front of me, and continued watching.  Blood seeping through the brown paper towel bandage.  It was really distracting.

IMG_1115

I continued on my clean meal quest the entire week.  My new favorite things from Trader Joes:  multigrain baguettes, “simply” roasted chicken, and their frozen herb packets.  Amazing.

IMG_1105

Friday after work Zach left for his golf // man trip // extravaganza.  Every time Zach leaves to go out of town I make a huge list of things to do to keep me busy…

IMG_1077

Zach had been gone for four hours and I accomplished everything on my list.  Every single dumb thing.  I ran all my errands, stopped at City Creek, scheduled our appointments, did my chores around the house, I even framed my newest project for our bedroom:  quotes from some of my favorite notes, letters, and birthday cards from Zach.  Maybe a little sappy…but my husband’s sweet notes make my whole day.  So I decided to frame them in a gallery on our wall in our bedroom.  Don’t worry, none of our guests will have to see it…

IMG_1119

Since I had no more items on my list, I ended my night with a run outside on the legacy trail and the Jazz game.

IMG_1108

Saturday morning I had a freelance design consult down in Lehi for a new-build home.  I loved seeing all the darling new craftsman homes down in that area.  My dream has always been to build my own home from the ground up…but I am realizing dreams are really expensive.  Such a darling area with kiddies all over playing outside.

IMG_1118

Meanwhile, in Entrada…Zach and his golf team won first place in their golf tournament!

IMG_1121

I spent the rest of my night shopping at the Traverse Outlets and catching up on my favorite shows thanks to Apple TV [best gift ever…especially when your husband is out of town].

IMG_1104

Sunday morning felt like spring.  The sun was shining through my bedroom windows so I spent the morning in my chair reading my stack of magazines, Pinteresting, and doing some research for an upcoming vacation.

IMG_1111

Sunday after church Zach returned home.  I had prepared his favorite meal [roast chicken with carrots, potatoes, and gravy] so he would remember how much he had missed me.  My plan worked.

IMG_1135

I went a little overboard.  Literally enough food for eight people and he was the only one eating it.  [I had chicken and brown rice – clean eating is super bland, by the way].  This is also the time I chose to tell him about a particular purchase I made at City Creek…he didn’t seem to mind with a mouth full of meat and gravy.

IMG_1133

All is right in the world again.  Zach is home alive.  Am I the only wife who worries their husband will get injured, lost, or severely sunburned while they are away?  These are things you worry about when you have a fair-skinned husband.  Unlike Zach’s weekend [one word:  Mesquite] my weekend was quiet and low key – but I must say that my house is a little cleaner, more organized, and I am well rested for a big week ahead!  So glad to have him home again.

Plauged

More storms and more sickness have hit the Hendo House.  Besides this odd cold we have both contracted, there was a lot of excitement that went down:

I put our V-Day decorations up:

Yes, the sticks are still with us.  I kinda like them.  I think they are going to stay around…at least until Easter.

This week it literally took me two hours to get to work.  I left at 7:40 and didn’t pull into the parking lot of my office until 9:42.  You know, the day of the “freezing rain”.  I heard there was a 20 car pile-up!  Glad I wasn’t there to witness it…

We tried a new meal this week:  steak with mushroom sauce and pureed cauliflower.  Zach loved it.  Until he realized that the “mashed potatoes” were cauliflower.

My display that I designed for Cobra Puma Golf was officially launched this week at the PGA Show.  It is used to display their new AMP drivers – it has been going on for quite some time and it’s so exciting to see it finally out and about in store locations.  It was such a fun project to be apart of.  Interesting fact:  the display was supposed to be made out of cardboard (to keep cost down) but we found a way to make it out of molded plastic!  So much sexier looking, if you ask me.

Also, my sister-in-law’s spa packaging is completed!  If you go to Beyond Spa for Valentines, check out their new retail products that we designed.  Diet Coke flavor is my favorite….for the record.

Over the weekend Zach and I caught an interesting cold.  A nose-burning, nose-running, kinda coughing cold.  We went out for dinner and movie Friday but felt too yucky on Saturday to go out and about.  So we stayed in, ordered Chinese, and watched the X-Games.

Sunday wasn’t much better.  We ventured out for church, looking very attractive…

Sunday afternoon we had a family Birthday Party for Cam!  We drove down to South Jordan, amidst the crazy storm, to see this little guy enjoy his cake [or just the frosting] and play with his new gear.

There was a heated board game to end the night – yes, a board game of motocross.

I am excited to start another week.  This upcoming weekend is my [26th] birthday.  Zach asked what I wanted for my said birthday, and I promptly replied “to be warm”.  We’ll see how it goes…

PICTURE OVERLOAD // PLUS THE PINES

Our week / weekend was pretty exciting :

The snow is still ever-present in our hood.  It’s pretty drafty at work so I have resorted to wearing scarves, beanies, and gloves to the office – and lots of layers.  The gloves are a pending problem – it makes typing a little clumsy.  Shout out to my friend Angie who made me this killer scarf…

Since we were away last weekend, for Family Night we decided to do dinner and a movie.  Sushi at Mikado – a movie at our local Bountiful joint.  The movie was fantastic, but I do love myself a good gangster flick.

This week has been highlighted on my calendar for months – SHOT Show in Las Vegas.  I had two booths going to the show [I am sure you are sick of it by now, I apologize – but it’s kind of my life currently] and I have been anxious and excited to see how everything went.  The pictures aren’t great, and are crowded with rednecks…but you get the idea.  The Browning Booth…

The Winchester Booth…

Unfortunately I don’t have the best photos of this booth, but I do have a video via GoPro.  The illuminated gun kiosks are my favorite.

Winchester Booth Walk-Through

It feels good to have it over with.  I have been working on these projects for months now.  Now?  On to the next [20] projects.

We are gearing up for V-Day and I am making new prints for our house:  but more on that later…

Friday we left for a mini road trip to Idaho to meet up with Zach’s family for the weekend.  We had a marathon of Breaking Bad on the way up there [pretty sure it isn’t that safe to watch movies on a laptop while driving, but it made the journey go by so fast].

We stayed at a place called the Pines – close to West Yellowstone and Island Park.  We shared a cabin with Zach’s sister Lori and her family.  That meant that the next morning Lola, Olive, and Will all got to wake up Uncle Zach.  I wouldn’t mind waking up to these sweet faces every morning.

After breakfast we all geared up to go on a snowmobile ride.

The whole family took a ride to Big Springs.  For the record, snowmobiling with the Hendersons is a little different than with my tiny family of four.  Also…snowmobiles have really evolved since I was young.  I remember sitting on the back of a sled and feeling like my backside was going to break.  These new age snowmobiles are like recliners on sleds.  With hand warmers and everything!

Some of us didn’t make it to Big Springs awake…

We spent the rest of the day eating, napping, eating some more, hot tubbin’, and playing games.

Sunday was spent making crafts with the kiddies…

Zach fed the kiddies…

…and we watched the BIGGEST football game of Zach’s existence.  The San Francisco playoff game.

He brought all the essentials:  soda, popcorn, and his throwback jersey.  He was glued to the tiny TV for the duration of the event.

After all was said and done, the Niners won and are on their way to the SUPERBOWL!  It was such a great game – and Zach has been ‘waiting for this for YEARS.’  I was really grateful they won as well;  that meant I didn’t have to make the drive home with a fussy husband.

When the victory dancing was over we packed our bags and made our way back home – with the most gorgeous Idaho sunset to finish off our weekend.

Thank you Mark and Jeanene for such a great time!  It was my first time to Island Park and I hope it won’t be the last.  We love our family!
