the Chateau at La Caille

First, I feel embarrassed that I didn’t know this place even existed.  I have visited La Caille before, but never knew about the Chateau.  From the second I set foot in the place my heart ached for Paris.  Some day.

Monday I received the photos taken by Lindsey Orton Photography.  I was so pleased, along with all the other vendors, how this all turned out.  Even though I had the smallest teensiest part in this whole spectacle, it was so fun to participate in.

The invites were the very first thing I worked on, and I can’t wait to do more watercolor projects in the future.  I forget how much I love making things with my hands every now and then!

The whole event was inspired by the Pantone color of the year.  From the hand-dipped feathers to the triple berry cake, this whole project was a dream.  I am so grateful I got to be apart of it!

Our Week

This week we:

Ventured to IKEA to get one thing.  That one thing was sold out, so we decided to play Hide and Seek instead…

IMG_3161

Almost bought a puppy.

IMG_3190

A woman brought four male St. Bernard / Lab pups to the Olympic Oval and we almost took one home.  Zach left to go warm up for his ice hockey game and I was left alone with this handsome devil.

IMG_3191

I completed [almost] all of my freelance projects:  9 wedding invitations, 2 logos, 2 birthday party invites, 2 baby shower invites, and some custom water bottle wrappers?  It’s been pretty crazy the last few weeks…

IMG_3192

Zach and I went on a date Friday night where we celebrated 30 days of being sober.  From Diet Coke, of course.

IMG_3215

We also gawked at Zach’s favorite office space:  Super Top Secret.  It houses an indoor half pipe and Zach’s been dreaming about touring it ever since it was featured on City Home Collective.

sts

We later saw a movie at the Broadway Theater which totally creeped us out.  Don’t go see The East.  Just don’t.  Please.  Unless you like seeing people bathe each other in a river…then go ahead, I guess.

Saturday was action packed.  I completed my first bike-run brick workout in the wee hours of the morning [it’s where you bike and then immediately go on a run] which totally kicked my trash.  I felt pretty confident about my tri training until this workout came along.  But enough about that.  We then worked in our yard, assembled our outdoor dining furniture, and did a bunch of other uninteresting chores around the house.  We worked hard, so we decided to treat ourselves to some grilled cheese sandwiches and cookie ice cream sandwiches at Melty Way.

IMG_3291

Good cheese, great dessert, gorgeous branding.  We both enjoyed it!

IMG_3293

I then drug Zach to every store I could think of.  This included Fashion Place and Scheels.  He needed a serious meal after all that, so we agreed on Cafe Trio.

IMG_3290

The finale of our week was having my brother and his girlfriend over to our house on Sunday night for a turkey dinner and hot fudge brownie sundaes.

Another week of summer made successful…

Weather + Wedded Bliss

The weather was so beautiful [and HOT] on Monday that a few of the guys from work and I went to Moochies for lunch and sat outside.  Moochies is my favorite:  I have never had their famous meatball sandwich, but the chicken sandy treats me well every time.

IMG_1742

Tuesday, after an appointment, I stopped by Bountiful Jr. High to watch my cousin Tyson kill it in his lacrosse game.  I sat by my uncle on the shady side of the field and helped him “keep time”.  Actually, I talked his ear off and he was distracted…but I still helped…a little?  Tyson scored two goals and my heart soared when I heard what his coach and teammates called him on the field:  “Ham”.  That was often my nickname in middle school/high school [or Hammer Time] – it brought me back to the old times.

IMG_1781

Later in the week Zach had an ice hockey game and we decided to make a night of it.  Mark and Jeanene joined us for dinner at Texas Roadhouse and then we all drove over to the Oval to watch him play.  I love having people to sit with at Zach’s games and loved chatting with them.

IMG_1797

It was his first ice hockey game of the season:  he scored a goal and had a killer assist.  The Sting [his team name: hence the black and yellow jerseys] didn’t win, but we all had so much fun watching him play!

Friday Zach and I went to my friend Chris’ Wedding Dinner.  His sweet [wife now, no longer fiancé] Bre is perfect for him and we are so happy they found each other!  I got to design their wedding invitations, it was such a fun project to be a part of…

It was so fun to see so many long-time friends.  I miss them all!

IMG_1840

After the wedding dinner we decided to catch a late flick.  We both voted to see 42.  Turns out everyone else at the theater was there to see Star Trek…except us.  Just us and a few hundred Trekkies…

IMG_1841

Saturday night was Chris and Bre’s wedding reception in Orem at the Sleepy Ridge golf course.  It was beautiful!  We got to visit with more of my friends and grubbed on delicious crepes.  I also tried my hand at baby wrangling.  Chris’ niece Eva is just about the most darling baby on the planet…

IMG_1838

We couldn’t stay too long because we had a birthday party, but the weather finally cleared up and it turned out to be the most beautiful night.

IMG_1837

Our Saturday ended with hot fudge sundaes and french fries.

Sunday a couple of girls in my ward and I sang in church.  Whenever I sing in sacrament I am basically a wreck all week before.  I literally make myself sick.  It’s pretty comical, actually.  After we sang our song, and after I sat down, I finally felt relief.  When sacrament was over and Zach and I started making our way to Sunday School I saw my whole family sitting in the back of the chapel waiting for us.  I had no idea they were coming.  To see them all there made my entire week.  I couldn’t help but cry.  I didn’t want them to leave and I wasn’t doing a good enough job convincing them to stay through Sunday School with us.  I love my family.  I wish they knew how much it meant to me to see them all there.  It was the perfect ending to my week.

This week?  We’re kicking off our summer to-do list.  Yes, I know…I apologize in advance.  If it gets annoying, which I am sure it will, just know that it won’t last too long.  Memorial Day can’t come soon enough!

She’s a Super Freak

Katie the freak show.  Yup, that’s me.  I wish I could say this week was normal, but alas…I have to be all weird and freakish.  First, our favorite FHE of 2013!

Monday night we had a combined Family Night with our friends / neighbors – the Reeds and Martineaus.  Nash, the Martineau’s little boy, has an obsession with helicopters and asked if they could stop by Classic’s hangar to see one.  We decided to make a night of it!

The boys got a big kick out of it and we even scored with having two mechanics working late so they could turn on the lights…because helicopters are much cooler with the gizmos and gadgets on, ya know.  These boys honestly melt my heart:

IMG_1327 IMG_1328 IMG_1329 IMG_1330 IMG_1331

It was so much fun – Zach and I enjoyed it as much as Nash and Crew did!  We love our neighbors, and loved spending FHE with them!

So…to explain myself a little…towards the end of last week I wasn’t feeling so hot.  I swear I have been sick more the past few months than I ever have been in my entire life.  I don’t do sick well:  I am one of those girls that refuses to take medicine – because I would rather “my body fight it off on its own”.  Because I am stupid like that.  Strange symptoms gradually starting popping up here and there and then hit me pretty heavy Monday and Tuesday of this week.  Tuesday on my lunch break I got so nauseated in Target that I had to sit down in the middle of a random aisle because the packages of Ziplock bags were swirling around me.  So embarrassing.  [To fast forward – things started to get worse as the week went on and I wasn’t feeling any better.]  I know what you are thinking – no I am not pregnant, but you better believe that I thought I was!  But that came back a negative, so I resorted to exploiting my resident brother-in-law to help my cause.  Turns out I had a bad reaction to a vaccination that I received last week – which explained the nausea, stomach aches, splitting headaches, dizziness…and a spooky rash.  Zach got the same vaccination, which is why I ruled this out at the beginning because he didn’t have a single symptom.  Those Hendersons.  They have bionic powers or something.  But me?  Looks like I won’t ever be getting another Tdap for the rest of my life and I’m totally OK with that.  Please bless I never get tetanus.  I tried to go on with my week as I would have normally – I even went to the gym three times and two out of those three times I had to sit my buns down on that gross squishy floor to let the dizziness pass.  But thanks to a lovely perscription [having an MD in the family is one of the most amazing blessings in the world] I am starting to feel better.  Thank you Dr. Henderson!!

In other news:  this week Zach and I spent some time looking at lots in North Salt Lake / Bountiful.  No, we’re not planning on purchasing one…we just like to dream about one day purchasing one.  We went from available lot to available lot – inspecting each one.  Zach is bound and determined to build our future skater children a skate park in our “future back yard”.  He would put one in our current back yard if there was ‘adequate room’.  We’ll see how that pans out…in the future.

This week in the mail I received an invitation I did for a cute girl I went to high school with.  She individually wrapped them in doilies and wrapped them with string – such a task!  Wedding invitations are so fun to receive in the mail when you become intimately acquainted with them through your computer.  She is having a vintage wedding, which explains the vintage paper look for her invites…

Speaking of design projects:  I finally finished our custom NYC subway map.  Last year I saw a blog where a woman had created a custom map for her 3-year-old son with all his favorite subway stops on it.  She framed it in his room.  I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it.  I decided it would be a fun way to record all our travel memories!  So I decided to tackle New York first.  I had plans to do Paris, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, and London…but after the time spent on this New York map I know I will have to limit my list.  The Met took me F O R E V E R.  But we’re both excited to see it done and can’t wait to hang it in our bedroom.  Another addition to our map collection…

IMG_1342

The weekend treated us well.  Friday we had a dinner and a movie date.  Dinner at the Cheesecake Factory at City Creek and a movie up in our neck of the woods.

IMG_1379

I also made Zach stop at the Grand America while we were down town so I could grab a some macarons.  I have been craving them since we went to Paris in November and these are the best I have found in SLC.  Les Madeleines in Salt Lake has pretty good ones as well, but doesn’t have the selection that the Grand has.  The salted caramel are to die for [if you like macarons].  But beware…they are a little pricy.  Hence the reason only two were purchased.

IMG_1365 IMG_1363

Saturday we had a brunch date at the Park Cafe.  The whole city was buzzing.  Down town was packed and the Liberty Park was exploding with people!  It was so nice to sit outside in the amazing weather.  Zach never strays away from ordering French toast.

IMG_1378

That night we had a double date with our friends the Treasures.  We dined at Ginza for sushi [first timers] and then returned to our house after for what we do best:  talking.  Talking forever.  Sometimes Angie and I talk so long that our husbands fall asleep.  Literally.  But before there was any sleeping we had some pie – to celebrate Jordan’s graduation on Friday from Weber State!  This Wildcat is going to be attending PA school soon, and we’re so happy for him!  They just can’t move too far away…

IMG_1377

We love Gordo and Angie – always a good time with these two!

Sunday we made the trek up to Layton to attend baby Clark’s big day!  Zach’s brother Chad gave the sweetest blessing.  Benny [Clark’s older brother] and I got to cuddle with Clark for a while after the meeting.  Definitely the highlight of my Sunday afternoon.

Sunday after we returned home from party central in Layton, we had our big Sunday dinner.  Zach had been asking for Surf N’ Turf night [thank you Jersey Shore] and that’s exactly what he got.  Hendo Surf N’ Turf night with delicious steak grilled by the “Crazy Legs” Grillmaster and fish broiled by yours truly.  We make a pretty good team when it comes to Hendo Surf N’ Turf Night.

The weekend couldn’t have been better.  Friends, family, too much food, and dreamy weather.  We could get used to this.

Robots, Skateboards + Disgusting Bread [#28][#8]

This week was as normal – random, HOT [as in temperature, not as in sexiness], and strange.  So as usual, this post…will be random…and strange.

On a side note:  I caught my THIRD summer cold.  Three times in three months.  I’m hoping that this means that I won’t get sick in the winter months, but a girl can only dream.  To deal with my sickness and the fact that my workplace doesn’t have a fully functioning air conditioning system [only the conference room and lobby area have cold air flow] I have been buying frozen water jugs from the nearby Chevron.  This means I have become real buddy buddy with the illegal immigrants that hang out in front of Home Depot waiting for work.  They have the same strategy to stay cool.  We’re all friends, no biggie.  64 ounces of frozen friendship, right there…

I got my hair did.  Whit hooked me up – not only with a much needed trim, but with a whole basket full of vegetables from her garden.  Zucchinis, cucumbers, and yellow squash.

My niece, Lola, has a birthday coming up and she asked her parents for a skateboard.  My sister-in-law asked me to design a skateboard for her with three requirements –  a picture of her, the color blue, and her latest obsession:  spiders.  Here is what Zach and I came up with…we hope she likes it!  I’ve never designed a skate deck before…

Speaking of something I have never done before.  I was asked to design a robot at work for a client.  Totally out of my comfort zone, but it’s forcing me to be super creative.  All of his parts and pieces are supposed to be out of recycled objects [for example his eyes are camera lenses and his biceps are made of car mufflers] and he is going to teach kids about recycling.  We’ll see how this goes.

I met Zach for our weekly lunch date – this time at 9th Delicatessen.  They are now serving black and white cookies, for all you NYC fanatics.

We had an awesome date night – sushi and a movie at the Broadway Theater.

Please notice Zach’s new pants – turquoise skinny jeans…yes we officially have the same pants now.  It’s was tripping me out the whole night.  And yes, he may weigh more than me…but he still has skinnier legs.  I’m so freaking jealous of his skinny legs.

Some girls in our neighborhood threw a shower for a friend.  Tiffany is having TWIN girls.  We did an Anthropologie theme with fruit parfaits.  I had fun making the invites and signage.

Zach and I are planning a trip over Labor Day coming up.  Zach has been wanting to go to this location for almost five years – we’re counting it as his birthday trip because his birthday is in September.  We are both really excited, and have both never been here.  One requirement is ski clothing, and I was desperately in need of some new gear.  We spent Saturday shopping for ski goggles and other winter accessories for our journey.

We also stopped at the gateway to run a few errands.  We can’t go to the gateway without Zach getting one or two cheese sticks from Hot Dog on a Stick.  The joy that this man child gets from fried cheese…

That night we decided to treat ourselves to dinner at Market Street.  Sitting two tables away from us was my boss.  What are the odds?  I seem to be unable to escape work.

After dinner we stopped at our favorite grocery store – the downtown Harmon’s.  We stocked up on essentials and bought supplies for Sunday Dinner the next day.  I also really wanted to try out a new recipe for “healthy zucchini bread”.  Besides, one of the items on our summer list was #28 – Make something with ingredients from the garden.  We were originally planning on making salsa, but this idea prevailed.  When we got home and unloaded our groceries we got to baking.  This recipe called for coconut oil, whole wheat flour, and honey as a sweetener.  It sounded great – and smelt better than expected while baking in the oven.  I pulled it from the oven, let it cool, and then cut two generous slices for the two of us.  We both took a bite at the same time.  It was HORRIBLE.  By far the worst thing I had ever baked.  We both were laughing until we had tears streaming down our faces.  I made a vow to myself that I would kill that recipe for life – it is now permanently retired.  All well, we had a good laugh and a reality check – not ALL healthy food is tolerable.  I am going to stick to white sugar when baking from now on.

After church and my Relief Society visits we made our long awaited tin foil dinners.  #8 – Tin foil dinners.  We call them “Hobo Dinners” in the Fotheringham household.  Fires are still prohibited in most of the canyons, so we improvised and a made them at home.  I have to say, there were zero complaints.  Just as good as up Millcreek Canyon.  We used the zucchini and yellow squash as well – Thanks Whit!  And because we were still scarred from the night before, we made a delicious batch of box mix brownies…the kind with regular old vegetable oil.  They were divine.

And on that note…our week couldn’t have been better.

Wedded Bliss

Remember when I posted about my friend, Brady Mathews’ wedding? Here’s some major wedding inspiration.

Just spotted these photos of his invites and the menus (which I forgot to post previously) on his photographer’s blog.  Much more beautiful than the gross screen shots I took a few weeks back…

I love when you have a friend with such amazing taste/style!  His wedding really was STUNNING.

You can see all the photos from his big day HERE on Alixann Loosle’s photography blog.
